Saxony, Schwarzbier

WLP001 and WLP830 Crash cooling

Schwarzbier's are magical to me.  Cleanly fermented masterpieces, showcasing rich Pilsner malts.  Having very little hops, it is also a cheap beer to brew.  Coming in around 4.8% ABV, it is also easy to drink.

Last weekend I was sitting at the Yardhouse with my Brother-n-law, looking at the menu, I knew I wanted something different, with under 5% alcohol.  Seeing a Kostritzer Schwarzbier from Germany, I quickly ordered one.  It was a fantastic, cleanly fermented, fresh masterpiece.  It might of been that moment in time, but the beer was perfect in every way.  I ended up ordering 3 of them throughout the afternoon.

I've only brewed 2 lagers so far on my brewing journey, so I pulled out Brewing Classic Styles (BCS) to do a little research.  It's also great timing, as my "Magic Carpet Ride" Maibock is done lagering.  So I have room in my lager fermentation fridge.  I also settled on a recipe from BCS only changing the Munich Malt, from 1 pound to 1.5 pounds.
